چکیده

The compound Ce3Co4Sn13 is an extremely heavy cubic heavy fermion system with a low temperature electronic specific heat of order 4 J=molK. If the compound is nonmagnetic, it would be one of the heaviest nonmagnetic Ce-based heavy fermions reported to date and therefore would be expected to lie extremely close to a quantum critical point. However, a broad peak of unknown origin is observed at 0.8K in the specific heat and magnetic susceptibility, suggesting the possibility of antiferromagnetic order. We present neutron diffraction data from polycrystalline samples which do not show any sign of magnetic scattering below 0.8K. In addition, we present inelastic neutron scattering data from a single crystal sample which is consistent with the 1.2K energy scale for Kondo spin fluctuations determined from specific heat measurements. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. Neutron diffraction study of magnetic field induced behavior in the heavy Fermion Ce3Co4Sn13

The specific heat of Ce3Co4Sn13 exhibits a crossover from heavy Fermion behavior with antiferromagnetic correlations at low field to single impurity Kondo behavior above 2T. We have performed neutron diffraction measurements in magnetic fields up to 6T on single crystal samples. The (0 0 1) position shows a dramatic increase in intensity in field which appears to arise from static polarization ...

Observation of field-induced single impurity behavior in the heavy fermion compound Ce3Co4Sn13

We have performed heat capacity measurements in magnetic fields to 90 kOe on single crystals of the cubic heavy fermion compound Ce3Co4Sn13. In zero field, there are no signs of long-range magnetic order down to 0.35K. However, C=T increases rapidly below 2K, reaching a very large maximum value of 4 J=mol Ce–K around 0.8K in zero field, and the high-field magnetic entropy approaches R ln 2 at 2...

Quasiparticles near quantum phase transition in heavy fermion metals

We have shown that the Landau paradigm based upon both the quasiparticle concept and the notion of the order parameter can be used to explain the anomalous behavior of heavy fermion metals. Exploiting this paradigm and the fermion condensation quantum phase transition (FCQPT) we show that this anomalous behavior is universal and can be used to capture the essential aspects of recent experiments...

Low temperature magnetization of the quantum critical heavy fermion superconductor β-YbAlB4

β-YbAlB4 is the first Yb-based heavy fermion superconductor with Tc = 80 mK. We measured low temperature magnetization of high-purity single crystals down to T = 25 mK. The measurements have revealed a considerable amount of volume fractions of the superconductivity and the upper critical field Bc2 curve under field along the c axis, consistent with the previous results. In the normal state, th...

Non-Fermi-Liquid Behavior in Metallic Quasicrystals with Local Magnetic Moments.

Motivated by the intrinsic non-Fermi-liquid behavior observed in the heavy-fermion quasicrystal Au51Al34Yb15, we study the low-temperature behavior of dilute magnetic impurities placed in metallic quasicrystals. We find that a large fraction of the magnetic moments are not quenched down to very low temperatures T, leading to a power-law distribution of Kondo temperatures P(T(K))∼T(K)(α-1), with...
